JBS welcomes Mr. Pat Canty as its Newest Advisory Council Member
Patrick Canty has worked at Texas and California daily newspapers for more than 30 years, serving in a variety of capacities ranging from reporter and editor, to publisher, a position he has held with the Odessa American since the summer of 2003.
In addition to his publishing duties at the OA, Canty serves on several community-related boards, including the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the Education Foundation of Odessa, Basin Public Broadcasting, Inc., the College of Business & Engineering Advisory Council at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and UTPB’s Development Board.
He is member of the Texas Press Association Board of Directors, a past-president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association and a past-unit president of the California Newspaper Publishers Association. In 2010 he received the Texas newspaper industry’s Frank W. Mayborn Award for Community Leadership.
A San Antonio native, Canty graduated with highest honors in 1982 from East Texas State University. He has also participated in advanced executive programs at the American Press Institute, the Stanford Business School and the Media Management Center at Northwestern University.
He is married to Julie Canty, an Ector County Independent School District educator, and they are the proud parents of a son, Sam, who attends Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
